On September 8, 2007, a Healing Field with over 3000, 8 foot tall American flags will fill the Sandy Promenade in front of Sandy City. It will honor our military families, police and firemen for their service given to our country, as well as to honor lives lost in the September 11th tragedy and to heal us all by encompassing the American spirit.

In conjunction with this year’s Healing Field is a Freedom Walk. The Freedom Walk will bring together walkers ­­ including military service members, military, police and firemen, their families, federal workers, corporate employees, civic organizations, and citizens from all over the state. In 2006, communities in all fifty states and more than 130 cities hosted Freedom Walks. This two-mile walk will start at the Sandy Promenade. This walk is in conjunction with hundreds of other cities participating in America Supports You Freedom Walk. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to sign a two mile yellow ribbon for our troops in Iraq, carry a small US flag and have the opportunity to assist in building the healing field.

This incredible event offers a way to honor a hero in your life who has touched you in a special way. For $20, individuals and businesses can sponsor a flag in honor of a hero and can have their flag included in the Operation Thank You shipment to our active duty troops. The flags will remain part of the memorial until September 12, when sponsors can take them home and fly them proudly. All net proceeds will benefit the Colonial Flag Healing Field Foundation and Operation Give. Volunteers welcome for set up and take down.
